Emilia Sanabria

Emilia Sanabria es una antropóloga franco-colombiana formada en Inglaterra (máster y doctorado en Antropología Social por la Universidad de Cambridge, licenciada en Historia y Filosofía de la Ciencia por el University College de Londres). Emilia ha sido profesora de Antropología en la Escuela Normal Superior de Lyon entre 2011 y 2018, antes de incorporarse al CNRS en 2018. En 2019 defendió su habilitación (HDR) titulada Towards an anthropology of encounters: ayahuasca’s multiplicity and the politics of knowledge («Hacia una antropología de los encuentros: la multiplicidad de la ayahuasca y las políticas del saber»). La investigación de Emilia se sitúa en la encrucijada entre la antropología de la salud y del cuerpo y los Estudios de Ciencia y Tecnología (STS, por sus sigla inglés). Ha estudiado las conflictivas relaciones entre la ciencia y la biomedicina occidentales y los conocimientos indígenas y tradicionales a través de un abanico de proyectos etnográficos sobre salud sexual y reproductiva, nutrición y justicia alimentaria, así como sobre las demarcaciones entre drogas y medicamentos. Su primer monográfico, Plastic Bodies: Sex hormones and menstrual suppression in Brazil («Cuerpos plásticos: hormonas sexuales y supresión de la menstruación en Brasil»), fue publicado por la Duke University Press en 2016. El libro, basado en una etnografía de la circulación de anticonceptivos hormonales en Brasil, propone leer el cuerpo como eminentemente plástico. Plastic Bodies recibió los premios Michelle Z. Rosaldo y Diana Forsythe de la Asociación Americana de Antropología en 2017. Emilia ha sido Investigadora Principal en el Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales (AISSR, por su sigla inglés) de la Universidad de Ámsterdam, desde 2013 a 2018. Allí desarrolló su trabajo sobre drogas, fármacos y prácticas basadas en evidencia en salud mundial dentro del programa ERC Chemical Youth: What drugs do for youth in their lives (https://chemicalyouth.org/) dirigido por Anita Hardon.

Desde 2017 es Investigadora Principal en Encuentros de sanación.
