Diana Rosas Riaño

Diana Rosas Riaño is a Colombian anthropologist completing her doctoral dissertation at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia on Indigenous women’s embodied experiences of menstruation in the context of their trajectories between their territories and the city. After a career in the NGO sector, Diana’s motivation is to understand contemporary Amazonian womanhood for women who construct their existence in lines of motion between the city and the forest. Diana Rosas Riaño was born in a town 2,600 meters closer to the stars, in the middle of the Colombian Andes. She spent her childhood traveling between Bogotá and the Ecuadorian Pacific forest, which sowed in her the feeling that life has meaning in movement, knowing new people and landscapes, adapting to what is unexpected. It was precisely this feeling that finally led her to anthropology. Anthropology has led her to get to know her country more intimately, to experience its cultural diversity by sharing, through her body and that of the people with whom she works, the different ways of celebrating, suffering and learning. Diana was Visiting Research with the Healing Encounters team from Sept-Dec 2019 as part of her doctoral research program.
